It wasn’t the highest quality rug to begin with and that’s not always the best idea for a rug in a kid’s room, or for any kind of heavily patterned rugs.

(There are only 2 videos so far, but we’re working on it!I saw some nice large-scale stars displayed in an entryway in a Christmas decor catalog a couple of months ago and I loved the friendly, welcoming, rustic vibe that they brought to the space.Of course, they were like $200 which would totally be worth it for the impact that they made on the room, but if you can build something similar yourself, why not?

We came up with this design that’s pretty quick and simple to put together but that also has a nice, chunky look.I did see this star at a local garden center/home decor store a few days after we completed these and I took a picture.

This star was similar in size to ours and was only $20, but the wood it was made from was paper thin and it just didn’t have the same presence that our stars have.

Plus, free is still better than $20!We added some new knobs of course and now the whole thing is ready to go!

We haven’t had any kind of large working space like this around our house (other than the kitchen) in the past and we’ve usually just used the picnic table in the driveway if we needed a lot of room, so this is kind of a big deal for us, if you couldn’t already tell! You can see that there are still some holes in the top where tools were attached, but that really won’t be a problem for what we’re using this for.

You can also see that Jack is never more than 6 inches away from me at any given time if he can help it!.There was quite a bit of pitting in this piece from years of rust and we decided not to worry too much about that.
